Course & Curriculum (B.H.M.S.)

Subjects for study and examination for the B.H.M.S. (Degree) Course shall be as under:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology and Biochemistry
  • Organ on of medicine and Philosophy
  • Chronic Diseases and Homoeopathic Psychology
  • Fundamentals of Psychology and Logic
  • Case Taking and Homoeopathic Repatriation
  • Homoeopathic Pharmacy
  • Homoeopathic Material Medical and Therapeutics
  • Pathology, Bacteriology, and Phraseology
  • Social and Preventive Medicine including Health Education and Family Medicine and Planning and Welfare
  • Forensic Medicine
  • Practice of Medicine and Pediatrics
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Surgery including E.N.T and Ophthalmology
  • Homoeopathic Therapeutics
  • History of Medicine

EXAMINATION

First B.H.M.S. Examination

Admission to Examination, Scheme of Examination etc.

  1. Any undergraduate may be admitted to the First B.H.M.S. examination provided he has regularly attended following courses of instructions in subjects of the examination. Theoretical and practical for not less than one and half years at a Homoeopathic College to the satisfaction of the Head of the College. The First B.H.M.S. Examination shall be held at the end of 18 months of first B.H.M.S. course.
  2. The Examination shall be written, oral and practical. The examination in Homoeopathic Pharmacy shall consist of one theoretical paper, one practical examination and one oral examination.
  3. The examination in Anatomy shall consist of two theoretical papers, one practical examination and one oral examination.
  4. The Examination in Physiology shall consist of two theoretical papers, one practical examination and one oral examination.
  5. The Examination in Materia Medica and Homoeopathic Philosophy shall consist of one theoretical paper and one oral examination.
  6. Three hours shall be allowed for each theoretical paper in each subject.
  7. A candidate securing 75% or above marks in any of the subject shall be declared to receive Honours in that subject provided he/she has passed the examination in the first attempt.
  8. In order to pass the First B.H.M.S. examination a candidate must pass in all subjects of the examination.
  9. Pass marks in all subjects both homoeopathic and allied medical subjects shall be 50% in each part (written, oral and practical)
  10. Full marks for each subject and the minimum number of marks required for passing are as per Table -1

Second B.H.M.S. Examination

  1. . No candidate shall be admitted to the Second B.H.M.S. examination unless:
    (a) He/she has passed First B.H.M.S. examination at least one year previously and
    (b) He/she has regularly attended the following courses of instructions, theoretical and practical, in the subject of the examination over a period of at least one year in a recognised Homoeopathic College subsequent to his passing the First B.H.M.S. examination to the satisfaction of the head of the College.
  2. The Second B.H.M.S. examination shall be held at the end of 2 ½ years of B.H.M.S. course.
  3. The examination shall be written, oral, practical and/or clinical as provided here in after, three hours being allowed for each paper.
  4. The examination in Pathology, Bacteriology and Parasitology shall consist of one theoretical paper, one practical examination and one oral examination and one spotting and identification of specimen.
  5. The examination in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology shall consist of one theoretical paper, one oral examination and one identification and spotting of specimens.
  6. The examination in Homoeopathic Materia medica shall consist of one theoretical paper, one practical and one oral examination.
  7. The examination in Organon shall consist of one theoretical paper, one oral and practical examination.
  8. The candidate securing 75 percent or above marks in any of the subjects shall be declared to receive Honours in that subject provided he has passed the examination, in all subjects of the examination.
  9. Pass marks in all subjects, (written, oral and practical) is 50 percent.
  10. Full marks for subjects and minimum marks required for passing are as per Table - 2

Third B.H.M.S. Examination

  1. No candidate shall be admitted to the Third B.H.M.S. examination unless:
    (a) He/she has passed second B.H.M.S. examination at least one year previously and
    (b) He/she has regularly attended the following courses of instructions, theoretical and practical, in the subject of the examination over a period of at least two years in a Homoeopathic College subsequent to his passing the First B.H.M.S. examination to the satisfaction of the head of the College.
  2. The Third B.H.M.S. examination shall be held at the end of 3 ½ years of B.H.M.S. course.
  3. The examination shall be written, oral, practical and/or clinical as provided here in after, three hours being allowed for each paper.
  4. The examination in Surgery shall consist of two theory paper, one oral examination and one clinical examination not less than one hour being allowed to each candidate for the examination and report on his cases with special reference to the scope of homoeopathic therapeutics vis-a vis the necessity of surgical treatment in the particular case.
  5. A practical examination in which questions or the use of surgical instruments and other appliances shall form special part.
  6. The examination in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Infant Hygiene including diseases of new-born shall consist of two theoretical papers, one oral examination including question on pathological specimens, models and X-ray films including questions on instruments and appliances and one clinical examination of not less than one hour being allowed to the candidate for the examination and report on his cases (one Obstetric and Gynaecological case homoeopathic point of view).
  7. The examination in Materia Medica shall consist of one theoretical paper, one oral examination and one bed side practical examination of two short cases not less than half an hour being allowed for examinations and report on each cases.
  8. The examination in Organon shall consist of two theoretical papers, one oral examination and one bed-side practical examination of one long case in the application of the tenets of the Organon in case taking evaluation of symptoms and sidelines of treatment not less than two hours being allowed for examination and report of each case.
  9. A candidate securing 75 percent or above marks in any of the subjects shall be declared to receive Honours in that subject provided he has passed the examination, in first attempt.
  10. In order to pass Third B.H.M.S. examination a candidate shall have passed in all subjects of last examination.
  11. Pass marks in all subjects both homoeopathic and allied medical subjects shall be 50% in each part (Written, oral and practical) as per Table 3

Fourth B.H.M.S. Examination

  1. No candidate shall be admitted to the Forth B.H.M.S. examination unless:
    (a) He/she has passed the Third B.H.M.S. examination at least one year previously; and
    (b) He has regularly attended the following courses of instructions, theoretical and practical, in the subject of the examination over a period of at least three years in a recognised Homoeopathic College subsequent to his passing the First B.H.M.S. examination to the satisfaction of the Head of the College.
  2. The Fourth B.H.M.S. examination shall be held at the end of 4 ½ years of B.H.M.S. course.
  3. The examination shall be written, oral, practical and/or clinical as provided here in after; three hours being allowed for each paper.
  4. The examination in Medicine, (including children, mental and skin) shall consist of two papers, one oral examination and one bed side practical examination in case taking of two short cases with a view to determining both nosological and therapeutic diagnosis from the homoeopathic point of view. Time allotted shall be half an hour for each case.
  5. The examination in Materia Medica shall consist of two theoretical papers, one oral examination and one bed-side practical examination not less than two hours being allowed for examinations and report on each case.
  6. The examination in Repertory shall consist of one theoretical paper, one oral examination and one practical examination in two cases of reportorial work. Time allotted shall be half an hour for each case.
  7. The examination in Social and Preventive Medicine including Health Education and Family Medicine shall consist of one theoretical paper, one practical examination and one oral examination including questions of Microscope and Microscopic specimens.
  8. A candidate securing 75 percent or above marks in any of the subjects shall be declared to receive Honours in that subject provided he has passed the examination, in first attempt.
  9. In order to pass Third B.H.M.S. examination a candidate shall have passed in all subjects of the examination.
  10. Pass marks in all subjects both homoeopathic and allied medical subjects shall be 50% in each subject.
  11. Full marks for each subject and minimum number of marks required for passing are as per Table 4
  12. A candidate who appears in the examination but fails to pass in a subject or subjects may appear in a supplementary examination in the subject or subjects of that part of the examination, in which he has failed, after six weeks from the publication of result of the first examination on payment of the prescribed fee along with an application in the prescribed form.
  13. If a candidate obtains pass marks in the subject or subjects in the supplementary examination, he shall be declared to have passed the examination as a whole.
  14. If such a candidate fails to pass in the subject or subjects in the supplementary examination, he may appear in that subject or subjects again at the next annual examination on production of a certificate (in addition to the certificate required under the regulations) to the effect that he had attended to the satisfaction of the Principal, a further course of study during the next academic year in the subject or subjects in which he had failed, provided that all the parts of the examination shall be completed within four chances (including the supplementary one) from the date when the complete examination came into force for the first time.
  15. If a candidate fails to pass in all the subjects within the prescribed four chances, he/she shall be required to prosecute a further course of study in all the subjects and in all parts for one year to the satisfaction of the Head of the College and appear for examination in all the subjects.
  16. Provided that if a student appearing for the Forth B.H.M.S. examination has only one subject to pass at the end of prescribed chance, he/she shall be allowed to appear at the next examination in that particular subject and shall complete the examination with this special chance.
  17. All examinations shall ordinarily be held on such dates, time and place as the examining body may determine.
  18. The examining Body may, under exceptional circumstances, partially or wholly cancel any examination conducted by it under intimation to the Central Council of Homoeopathy and arrange for conduction re-examination in those subjects within a period of thirty days from the date of such cancellation.
